With a history heavily influenced by Celts and Vikings, the Isle of Man has its own currency, laws, language and the oldest continuous parliament in the world. The capital, Douglas, began as a fishing port, but expanded with the arrival of tourists during Queen Victoria's reign and now boasts a busy shopping centre in Strand Street, and promenade still used by horse-drawn trams.
