Enchanting Estates (full day)
Through the beautiful rolling hills and valleys of Ayrshire to the spectacular Threave Estate and Gardens. Best known for its summer displays and herbaceous flowerbeds and borders. After lunch in one of Dumfries' fine Hotels, the tour turns north to Drumlanrig Castle. One of the biggest estates in Scotland, it was built in the 17th century for the first Duke of Queensberry, and is now the home of the present Duke of Buccleuch. The castle is famous for its fine art collection, and has some interesting relics of Bonnie Prince Charlie on display. From the Castle the journey continues North through the beautifully lush Nithsdale valley, as the road heads West we pass through the 16th Century market town of Cumnock, before arriving back at Ayr. <<Back |
