Fyvie Castle & Pitmedden Gardens (half day)Starting with a wonderful visit to the impressive 14th century Fyvie Castle. The south front of the Castle employs a plethora of crow stepped gables, turrets sculpted dormers and the five towers of the castle bear witness to the five families who have owned it. The American wife of one of these Owners in the 1890's installed a racquet court and a bowling alley. These have been restored and can be seen today. After visiting the castle, the tour continues a short distance to the 100 acre estate of Pitmedden Gardens. The centrepiece of the estate is the Great Garden which was originally laid out in 1675 by sir Alexander Setan. The elaborate designs inspired by the garden at Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh have been painstakingly recreated at Pitmedden. Also including walks through wildlife gardens and wooded gardens. From the gardens the tour returns via the coastal route back to Aberdeen. <<Back |
