Inverewe Gardens

Corrieshalloch Gorge

A beautiful scenic tour taking in some fantastic highland scenery. Leaving the pretty white washed fishing village of Ullapool the first stop is at the dramatic Corrieshalloch Gorge, one of the finest examples in Britain of a box canyon. It is about 60m deep and contains the Falls of Measach which plunge nearly 50m. A spectacular view is obtained from the suspension bridge directly over the waterfall! Passing the wonderful shores of Little Loch Broom, Gruinard Bay and Loch Ewe until reaching the National Trusts famous Inverewe Gardens. This beautiful garden is astonishingly on the same latitude as Siberia. The warm gulf stream being the reason for its success. Plants from many countries flourish in these gardens which were created by Osgood Mackenzie over 120 years ago, giving an almost continuous display of colour throughout the year. Originally a barren rocky promontory with a single bush of dwarf willow these magnificent gardens have been painstakingly created to their present state in which all manner of exotic flowers and shrubs have come to flourish.
