Kilmartin (Valley of Ghosts) (full day)Leaving the pretty fishing village of Inveraray we skirt the banks of Loch Fyne as we head south to Lochgilphead. Turning inland relics of a prehistoric time can be seen including huge standing stones, cairns and crypts - dating back to 3000 BC. Stopping in Kilmartin Glen (valley of ghosts), a short walk around these amazing relics, including Nether Largie (a curious stone circle) before a visit to the nearby Kilmartin House Museum, which is in itself a centre of archaeology. Lunch is served by the Loch Melfort Hotel (or similar) in the idyllic location overlooking Arknish Bay. After lunch, continuing north - the route takes in some fantastic scenery before reaching Oban. A tour of the town followed by some free time to browse through the streets and shops in this seaside town. Tour returns to Inveraray via the beautiful shores of Loch Awe. <<Back |
