Pennan & Gamrie Villages (half day)This scenic tour departs from Peterhead and heads North through the village of Crimond reaching Fraserburgh, a busy fishing port on the North East corner of Grampian. Following the coastline through Rosehearty until reaching Pennan. These unspoilt fishing villages have remained unchanged for generations, and were in bygone days used by silk and liquor smugglers. The Pennan village was made famous as the location for the hit movie "Local Hero" starring Burt Lancaster. Look out for the telephone box made famous in the film, as it is now a "protected monument". After a brief visit and photostop a short journey takes the tour to the neighbouring Gardenstown (Gamrie) which is a village built in a series of terraces on which is virtually a cliff face. Although picturesque in the Summer, the village can be a terrifying place during Winter storms. <<Back |
