Poets & Presidents (full day)

Culzean Castle

Birthplace of Scotland's National Poet, Robert Burns, born 25th January 1759. A visit to Burns Cottage gives an insight into the life and works of Burns as well as a unique atmosphere of life in the 18th century. A delicious three-course lunch is served at the Burns Monument Hotel, before leaving Alloway to travel on to Culzean Castle.

Culzean Castle is an 18th century design by successful Scottish Architect, Robert Adam. Although the castle looks more medieval with its arrow slits and battlements, the interior exemplifies the harmonious classical designs Adam loved. A small exhibition celebrates President Eisenhower's military and civilian career as well as his close association with Culzean Castle. Outside the Country Park offers tranquil walks along cliff tops, beaches, walled gardens and wooded trails.
