Torosay Castle & Narrow Guage Railway (half day)
Torosay Castle was completed in 1858 by the eminent architect David Bryce and is probably one of the few great houses still open to the public whilst remaining a family home. The Castle represents a great Scottish baronial- style and is full of interest and humor by way of its informal displays and family albums. The house also contains an archive library where visitors can learn about David Guthrie James' adventurous life, which includes sailing one of the last Windjammers and his polar explorations. Time to browse round the impressive 12 acre garden before its "all aboard" the miniature narrow guage for a railway for a memorable (20 minute) train journey through wonderful countryside to the village of Craignure. Joining the coaches this particularly delightful tour returns to Tobermory. <<Back |
